Tailored energy saving advice

Our property modelling sfotware provides tailored energy-saving advice, integrated into digital journeys to enhance customer experience and support your net zero goals.

What is the Home Energy Check service?

Energy Saving Trust’s Home Energy Check API is a market-leading, digital advice service that provides customers with impartial, energy saving advice for their home. At the heart of the Home Energy Check service is our Dynamic Engine model, which is based on Standard Assessment Protocol (SAP) logic and assumptions – the same ones that underpin EPCs.

Typically, a full SAP calculation requires hundreds of inputs, but with Dynamic Engine’s inference module, we can run a SAP assessment with only a few key property inputs and return an accurate estimate of property performance. Dynamic Engine’s package builder dynamically models thousands of combinations of measures in seconds to produce a currated list of recommended improvements a homeowner can take, based on motivation, budget and technical suitabiliy.

How does the Home Energy Check work?

The Home Energy Check API is a RESTful API that provides a method for interacting with Dynamic Engine. It provides a series of endpoints that enable you to:

  1. Create a HEC record
  2. Submit relevant inputs (e.g. property details, occupancy, fuel bills, goal and budget)
  3. Generate and retrieve a plan (including measures, costs, energy, fuel bill and carbon savings)
  4. Edit the measures in a plan
  5. Add additional details or modify previous inputs
  6. Retrieve underlying property data

This functionality gives you the flexibility to integrate tailored energy saving advice into your own customer journey and to extract the underlying data for use in other applications.

When subscribing to the HEC API, you will receive a unique API key to access the service. Pricing is based on an annual license fee and the volume of HEC records generated. For more details, you can view our HEC API documentation.
