What is the property lookup?
Our property lookup feature is powered by Energy Saving Trust’s Home Analytics – an address-level housing stock database covering all properties in England, Wales and Scotland. The database includes over 85 fields of rich property information including building attributes, energy efficiency characteristics, suitability indicators for renewable energy technologies, eligibility for grant funding, as well as estimates of vulnerability and deprivation.
Home Analytics is derived from tens of millions of property and small area records that are drawn from a variety of trusted sources. Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) represent the primary data source. Approximately 25% of the residential building stock does not have an EPC on file. To help fill this data gap, we’ve developed modelling techniques to predict values for properties with missing data. Home Analytics is a combination of known and modelled property records.

How does the property lookup work?
The Home Analytics API is a RESTful API that enables property data to be retrieved via GET request from one of two endpoints:
- Postcode – returns a list of properties in a given postcode, each with their own encrypted token for retrieving property-level information via a second call.
- Unique property reference number (UPRN) – returns data for a single proprety, based on the specified UPRN.
When subscribing to the service, you will receive a unique API key and an initial balance of credits, which can be topped up as needed. Each request to the API consumes 1 credit.
